Correction
For the concerns that need the doctor.
Melasma. Deep acne scarring. Vascular lesions. Persistent pigmentation. These don’t respond to generic facials or off-the-shelf skincare. They need clinical sequencing — phased treatment plans paced to the skin’s recovery capacity. At CAL MED, Correction protocols are the most clinical work we do. Slower, safer, and usually more effective than the fast route.
For You IF
Best For
Specific, established concerns: melasma, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, sun damage, acne scarring (rolling, boxcar, ice-pick), vascular lesions (telangiectasias, broken capillaries), and selected skin lesions.
Not For
Diffuse ‘dull skin’ or general signs of ageing — head to Foundation or Stimulation. Acute breakouts or active inflammation — these need to settle first.
What it works on
Melasma, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, sun damage, acne scarring, vascular lesions, redness, persistent uneven tone.
THE TREATMENTS
8 protocols, each chosen for a specific job.
DEKA Red Touch
Targets pigmentation at multiple depths. The same device used in our Stimulation tier, calibrated differently for Correction protocols.
Candela IPL
Intense pulsed light for photo rejuvenation, redness, and surface pigmentation. Well-established and well-tolerated.
BIAxis Q-Switch
Q-switched laser specifically for brightening, melasma toning, and stubborn pigmentation. Used in carefully spaced sequences to avoid rebound.
Nd:YAG
Targets vascular concerns — facial vessels, telangiectasias, persistent redness. Highly specific.
Cosmelan / Dermamelan
Clinical pigmentation programmes for melasma. Dispensed and supervised by Dr Gabriel. Powerful, sequenced, and requires patient compliance.
Light & Bright
Our signature combination protocol — IPL plus Frax — designed for patients who want a single planned programme rather than separate visits.
DEKA Tetra Pro CO₂
Fractional CO₂ resurfacing for deeper acne scarring. Higher-intensity, with longer downtime.
Frax 1550 / 1940
Non-ablative fractional laser for scars and surface resurfacing. A gentler option, with less downtime, that builds results across sessions.
“With pigmentation and scars, rushing usually means redoing. Phased treatment is how the skin actually responds.”
— What to expect from Correction
HOW A PROGRAMME WORKS
Three steps. The same for every tier.
#1
Consultation
A structured consultation with Dr Gabriel Cao. Skin assessment, history, and a candid conversation about what you actually want — and what’s realistic.
#2
Treatment Plan
A sequenced plan, calibrated to your skin. Session count and cadence depend on the tier and your goals — some need a series, some need a single session. All of it is agreed upfront so you know what you’re committing to.
#3
Follow-up
Skin reassessment after the initial sequence. Adjustments made as needed. From here, your plan either continues, moves to a new tier, or steps into The Longevity Method for ongoing care.
Questions about Correction
How long does melasma treatment take to show results?
Melasma is a chronic condition, not a one-time fix. Most patients see meaningful lightening within 8 to 12 weeks of a sequenced programme — typically a combination of clinic treatments (BIAxis Q-Switch, Cosmelan) and home protocols. Maintenance is essential. Without it, melasma typically returns.
Can acne scars be fully removed?
Acne scars can be significantly improved, but not entirely erased. Rolling and boxcar scars respond best to fractional resurfacing (DEKA Tetra Pro or Frax). Deeper ice-pick scars often need combination work. Most patients see 40 to 70 percent improvement over a programme of 4 to 6 sessions. Dr Gabriel will give an honest assessment of what’s realistic at consultation.
Is laser treatment safe for darker skin tones?
Yes, with careful device selection and settings. Some lasers and IPL devices carry higher risk of pigmentation issues on darker skin tones, which is why device choice matters. Dr Gabriel uses devices and settings calibrated to the patient’s Fitzpatrick skin type. Treatment is always preceded by a patch test and a stabilising Foundation phase if needed.
What's the downtime after Correction treatments?
It varies by treatment. IPL and BIAxis Q-Switch have minimal downtime — possibly 24 hours of mild flushing. Frax has 2 to 3 days of redness. DEKA Tetra Pro CO₂ has 5 to 7 days of more significant recovery. Dr Gabriel will set realistic downtime expectations at consultation, so you can plan around them.
WHAT FOLLOWS FOUNDATION
When the skin is stable, these are the natural next steps.
Stable skin tolerates Correction treatments far better.
Often run after Correction to rebuild skin quality.
Injectables sometimes used to fine-tune scarred areas.
Slow is faster, in the end.
Correction work is best planned in stages, not rushed. Start with a consultation with Dr Gabriel — we’ll assess what you have, set honest expectations, and build the right sequence.
